Parent Organization

Band Parents at CSH have historically been a dedicated group of volunteers. We are blessed to have the opportunity to participate, on behalf of our children, in one of the best band programs in the state. Yet even with an outstanding music program and exceptional instructors, the program can not be successful without supportive parent volunteers.  We have all learned if everyone pitches in with one task, activity, or fundraiser, then the burden is much easier to bear for all.

Your first opportunity as a parent to volunteer will be at the parent meeting in August.  Volunteer Coordinators will have sign-up sheets with specifics (dates, times, and needs) at that time.  If you miss that meeting, the Coordinators are listed below with contact information.  Please feel free to contact the individual in charge of the area where you feel most suited to help out.

Food:  We feed the band before or between performances at most of the actual marching band competitions and festivals.  This does NOT include football games.  A menu will be posted on this website as soon as it is finalized.  Volunteers have the opportunity to sign up to bring desserts (cookies) for these meals.  We are limited in the number of chaperones we can take into venues, so serving meals is done by parents who volunteer as chaperones.

Chaperones:  A group of parents is needed for each performance (including football games) to chaperone.  This includes loading the equipment trailer, riding the bus,  and serving the meals.  The numbers are dependent on the performance and the venue requirements.  Details of time, date, and place will be provided in August at the parent meeting.  It is not recommended that parents bring younger children with them due to the equipment we will be moving, the speed at which we are required to get it on and off the field, and there are "down times" when younger children become bored.  If you have this situation, you might consider volunteering in another area.

Spirit Wear:  We sell a limited amount of "gear" for purposes of showing team (band) spirit.  This usually includes t-shirts, sweatshirts, and sometimes other items.  All profits from these sales go directly to the band.  If you are interested in purchasing, selling (at the parent meeting, Back-to-School nights, etc.  Samples will be available at the parent meeting, and details will be posted when available.

YOU KNOW YOUR A MARCHING BAND PARENT WHEN...

1) You no longer refer to your child as a 15 year old son/ daughter, but as a "Sophomore Baritone."

2) You make two more trips than expected to drop off your child with everything he or she needs.

3) You can't pick your child out of a crowd because they all look alike, unless they play sousaphone.

4) You prominently display a band calendar in your kitchen and have band dates marked on your work calendar.

5) Your newest best friends are fellow band parents.
